Metro’s Wednesday PM Commute Wrap Up, Plus Upcoming Events That May Impact Service

At 7:00 PM – Metro’s Wednesday evening commute is quietly winding down with no significant delays or disruptions in transit service to report.

Please note upcoming events over the next few days that may impact travel in Metro’s service area.

Sounders FC at Qwest Field tonight, Wednesday, May 25, 7:00 PM:

  • Although no Metro or Metro operated Sound Transit service is rerouted because of this event, expect possible delays due to traffic volumes in the SODO, Stadium, Pioneer Square & downtown Seattle areas.
  • Regular fares apply.

Eastbound I-90 Mainline Over Lake Washington Closed:
WSDOT crews will close the eastbound mainline of I-90 from 11:59 PM Wednesday, May 26 through Friday, May 27 5:00 AM.

  • Traffic will be detoured to the reversible express lanes between the Mount Baker Tunnel and the Mercer Island lid.

Ramp Closure – 108th Av NE to westbound SR-520:
Overnight on weeknights only May 24 through June 2, 9:00 PM-5:00 AM each night. 

Mariners’s next home stand is Friday, May 27 through Sunday, June 5:  
Traffic in the SODO, Stadium, Pioneer Square & downtown Seattle areas may be congested on game days.

NW Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center Saturday May 28 through Monday May 30: 
Traffic on the main arterials around Seattle Center may be congested during this event. 

  • Shuttle service is provided between the Seattle Center and the Northgate Transit Center.

Memorial Day observed Monday, May 30 , 2011: 
Metro Transit operates it’s holiday schedule 

SR-99 Alaskan Way Viaduct Project (long-term):
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has reduced lanes on the SR-99 Alaskan Way Viaduct in both directions between the West Seattle Bridge and SODO. 

  • Plan extra time when using the Viaduct for travel to and from Summer events.

Incident cleared on the westbound SR-520 ramp to southbound I-5

At 6:50 PM – The incident on the westbound SR-520 ramp to southbound I-5 has been cleared. Though heavy traffic congestion still exist, delays in service are expected to subside.

Buses resume service on norhtbound Lake City Way NE between NE 95th St and NE 120th St

At 6:47 PM – Routes 72, 79, 243, 306, 309, 312, 372 & ST 522 resume service on northbound Lake City Way NE between NE 95th St and NE 120th St. Delays in service are expected to subside.

Update: Westbound SR-520 ramp to southbond I-5; left lane now open

At 6:25 PM – An incident has occured on the westbound SR-520 ramp to southbound I-5; the ramp is no longer closed with the left lane open to traffic. Reroutes are in effect with no stops missed. Delays in service are expected to subside.

Buses Rerouted off norhtbound Lake City Way NE between NE 95th St and NE 120th St

At 5:40 PM – Routes 72, 79, 243, 306, 309, 312, 372 & ST 522 are rerouted off of northbound Lake City Way NE between NE 95th St and NE 120th St. Use stops on Lake City Way NE south of NE 95th St or North of NE 125th St, or on 35th Av NE between NE 95th Av NE and NE 120th St.  Until further notice.

Update: Incident cleared on I-5 north of NE 145th St; All lanes of traffic now open in both directions.

At 5:11 PM – The incident on I-5 north of NE 145th St has been cleared. All lanes of traffic are open in both directions.  Heavy traffic conditions continue to cause delays in service which are expected to slowly subside…

Update: Incident on I-5 North of NE 145th St; Northbound HOV Lane Now Open; Souhbound Far Left Lane Blocked

At 4:52 PM – The incident on I-5 north of NE 145th St affecting both northbound and southboun traffic has been partially cleared. All lanes are now open in the northbound direction. The far left lane is only blocked in the southbound direction.

Heavy traffic conditions continue to cause delays in service which are expected to slowly subside…

Incident on I-5 North of NE 145th St Affecting Northbound and Southbound Traffic; The HOV Lane is Blocked Northbound; The Left 2 Lanes are Blocked Southbound.

Delays expected to both southbound and northbound I-5 service north of downtown Seattle. The incident on northbound I-5 at NE 145th St is blocking the HOV lane. The incident on southbound I-5 at NE 145th St is blocking the left 2 lanes of traffic. WSDOT, SPD and FPD on the scene.

Update: Incident Cleared on Souhbound I-5 North of NE Ravenna Blvd

At 3:27 PM – The incident on southbound I-5 just north of NE Ravenna Blvd has been cleared. All lanes of traffic are now accesssible. Service delays due to traffic congestion is expected to subside.

Metro’s Wednesday PM Commute Begins; Incident on SB I-5 north of Ravenna Blvd Blocking 2 Right Lanes; Plus Upcoming Events That May Impact Service

Metro’s Wednesday afternoon commute begins with an existing incident on southbound I-5 just north of NE Ravenna Blvd, blocking the two right lane of traffic. SPD and FDP are on the scene. Traffic backups extend north of NE 130th St. Though no reroutes are in effect due to this incident, delays can be expected in service that travel in the affected area.
