Friday’s Metro PM Commute wrap-up, plus upcoming events that may Impact Service

At 7:00 PM – Metro’s Friday evening commute is quietly winding down with no significant delays or disruptions in transit to report.

Please note information below regarding upcoming events in Metro’s service area.

Sporting Events and Festivals:

Mariners game today, Friday, May 27, 7:10 PM at Safeco Field
Traffic in the SODO, Stadium, Pioneer Square & downtown Seattle areas may be congested on game days.  Ride transit to the game.

Mexico vs. Ecuador at Qwest Field, Saturday, May 28, 1:00 PM
Although no Metro or Metro operated Sound Transit service is rerouted because of this event, expect possible delays due to traffic volumes in the SODO, Stadium, Pioneer Square & downtown Seattle areas.

Nearly all the transit service operated by Metro and its regional partners that travels to downtown Seattle goes to within walking distance of the sports stadiums in SODO.  Much of that service operates on the SODO Busway, along the Link light rail corridor or in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, separate from general purpose traffic congestion, and most of it also serves park and ride lots where fans can park free, or transfer points with other service. Regular fares apply.

All fans are encouraged to ride transit to and from stadium events.

NW Folklife Festival at Seattle Center Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30
Northwest Folklife Festival at Seattle Center

  • Regular service & Northgate Shuttle Seattle Center is served directly by Metro routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 13, 15, 16, 18, 24, 30 and 33.  Routes 5, 17, 26 and 28 also go to within walking distance of Seattle Center.  Regular fares apply.
  • Additionally, Metro is providing shuttle bus service Saturday through Monday between the Northgate Transit Center and the Folklife Festival. The Folklife shuttle operates between the Northgate Transit Center at Bay 5 and Seattle Center, where the buses stop eastbound on Mercer Street at 3rd Av North.  There are additional limited shuttle stops along Aurora Avenue North at N 105th, N 85th, N 76th and N 46th streets.  Folklife shuttle trips leave from Northgate every 20 minutes starting at 10 a.m. and from Seattle Center starting at 10:32 a.m. each of the three days.
  • The cash-only shuttle fare is $2.50 per person each way, except for children 5 and under who ride free. Metro transfers, passes and ORCA cards are not accepted.

While all traffic could experience delays in event areas, such as Seattle Center and SODO, transit is an excellent option for getting to and from weekend activities. Transit service is often able to take advantage of lanes or travel corridors that are restricted to general purpose traffic.  There is lots of transit service to and from this weekend’s major event areas.
